White text on Black background

I'm trying to get some white text on a (solid black) hatched circle. The 2 items, circle and text, are both on the same layer with the circle and hatching drawn first followed by the text. However the text always seems to be displayed and printed in black. I've also tried putting the items on separate layers with different default colours for each layer. I have also tried (with items on the same and separate layers) specifying the item colour, all to no avail. Anybody done this or has the knowledge as to how this can be accomplished?

Hi CJCUK - welcome in the forum.

Two things are coming in my mind if I read your post.

1. There is a color auto function in QCAD which prevent a white on white etc. drawing.
Please check the settings below:
Edit, Drawing Preferences, Graphic view, Appearance,

Toggle it - un-toggle it and see if this will solve your problem.

2. The second thing is the order of your layer. Is the white one with the text on top of all other layer? You can modify the layer order.
You have to select the layer first and then you are able to use the tools:
Modify, Bring to front or send to back.

Thanks for your prompt reply Husky.
Right first time. :D
With the 'Prevent White on White/Black on Black' checked, the white text does not display. Clearing it and the text displays OK. Re-check it and the text cannot be seen.
Is it my interpretation or is the sense of the flag inverted e_confused ?

p.s. I had already made sure the layer order was correct.

This preference refers to the background color of your drawing area and the color of your entity.

If the option is enabled (ticked), white entities will be drawn in black if the background color of your drawing area is set to white or very bright. Black entities are drawn in white if the background is black or dark.

If the option is disabled (unticked), all entities are always drawn in the color they are in, allowing you to draw 'invisible' entities (black on black, white on white).

The option exists to allow users with different background color settings to share drawings without having to modify the drawings. Some users prefer to draw on white backgrounds, some on black backgrounds.
