I just wonder: is there an elegant way (e.g. through scripting) to export a DXF with N layers to N DXF files where each file only contains the according layer?
Ideally, the layer names would be used as export names...

Yes, this is certainly possible to achieve with a script. I would probably tackle the problem by copying each layer one by one to the clipboard and in between saving the clipboard to a file.
