Show a "broken" object length

Post by biomade » Fri Oct 31, 2014 5:13 pm

working on a drawing and it must fit on 11" x 8" wide paper.

The body of the piece is 2" wide by 2" high by 18" long and all the detail work is at each end so I don't need to show the middle.

How to I draw a break in the middle to indicate that can show that the "middle" is the same and then how do I use the dimension tools reflect the actual length

Thanks in advance to those who help me figure this out.

The way how you indicate that the part drawn is longer than shown depends largely on industry specific, local or company specific standards.

This is one popular way often used in CAD:

More conventional examples:

For the dimension(s) that have to show a label that does not equal the measurement, you can override the label using the property editor:

These can be loose line segments, a polyline or a block, whatever you prefer.
