When trying to create Dimensions all I get is a line. No arrows, no text.

Main Menu > Edit > Application (or 'Drawing Preferences', applies to the current drawing only!) > Defaults for new drawings > Dimension settings
and check to see if you have any values in the fields - Text height, Arrow size etc....

thanks for your replies.Dimension preferences all OK. Drawing attached with text and arrow free vertical dimension lines

Untick the check box and adjust the values to suit what you need.
*Good practice would be to set up dedicated layers for outlines, dimensions etc..

1. Load the drawing
2. Edit > Drawing Preferences (NOT Application Preferences!) > Dimension > Dimension Settings
3. Enter a dimension Size Scale Factor, e.g. 20: 4. OK
