How do I create a helical groove?

Post by miketones » Tue Jul 28, 2015 8:06 pm

QCAD doesn't seem to have a built-in tool for drawing a helical pattern such as a screw thread. In 2D these would appear as a series of sine waves but there does not appear to be a tool to draw such a thing. I'm aware of the various conventions for drawing threaded bolts, screws etc but these won't work for my needs. I'm trying to draw a cylindrical component which has semicircular grooves which rotate around the long axis with a very wide pitch (only quarter of a turn for the entire length of the component).

No.

You could use the script interface (ECMAScript aka JavaScript) to write your own tool for a specialised tool like that.
