(QCAD PRO 3.9.7)
The manual assumes that I know what a block is for QCAD. But I don't. All operations with blocks are explained in the manual, like creating, adding, renaming blocks, but still not the fundamental info about what a block is. Trying to solve a puzzle is always interesting, but my mind is already overloaded with other tasks and my time is seriously limited, so I thought I'd ask here for a simple definition instead. Quick and risky guess: Is it a group?
What is a block? It is surrounded by a veil of mystery :)

Re: What is a block? It is surrounded by a veil of mystery :
Yes, a block is a named, reusable group of entities.
The integrated user manual assumes that you are familiar with layers, blocks and other CAD fundamentals (entities, object snaps, coordinates, etc).
If you are new to QCAD and CAD in general, you might be interested in the QCAD book which specifically targets beginners and explains such fundamental CAD concepts in great detail with many examples:

Re: What is a block? It is surrounded by a veil of mystery :
Thanks, but I can't buy the book right now.
BTW, are the QCAD's key commands standard in all cad software? I saw a 2010 thread that keys would be customizable in 3 version viewtopic.php?t=1397
So is there a way to customize the commands to more intuitive ones (eg for the Trim command I'd prefer T,R for Edit Text E,T etc)?

Configuring key codes:
Edit > Application Preferences > General > Tool Settings
Edit > Application Preferences > General > Tool Settings
