User defined "hatch" patterns

Post by bromide1975 » Thu Oct 08, 2015 8:05 pm

I've created an array of hexagons, close packed, to produce a honeycomb fill pattern that I would like to be able to use to "hatch" the internal area of rectangular shapes to produce ventillation panels. I am using QCAD 3.9 on Windows 7 32 bit.
If anyone can advise whether it is possible to produce user defined "Hatch" patterns and, if so, how to go about it I would be very grateful.

Thank you for any help

Dave

QCAD supports the standard .pat format for hatch patterns also used by Autocad and many other CAD packages. You can find lots of free hatch patterns online. There is also software available to create hatch patterns, though not for free as far as I know.

Search query for hatch pattern files (.pat):
https://www.google.nl/search?q=autocad+hatch+patterns

It's also possible (though not straight forward) to create new hatch patterns from scratch using a text editor. The format is well documented, here are just two of many tutorials about creating .pat files:
http://knowledge.autodesk.com/search-re ... E-htm.html
http://www.ellenfinkelstein.com/acadblo ... -patterns/

Once you have a new .pat file, you can simply store it inside patterns/metric (or patterns/imperial for inch based patterns) of your QCAD installation and restart QCAD.
