Hello,
The Qcad script builds a directory in ~/opt then
builds a directory for the new releases. both of the releases
are in the directory ~/opt. Do I change the script for a different directory?

I have no experience with a linux system - I'm a windows guy!
Maybe this will help you how to install QCAD on your system
http://www.qcad.org/en/qcad-installation#linux

Important is that the new installation files are not mixed up with the old installation files. To create a complete new and different directory sounds plausible to me. I would do that on my win system ...
Maybe it makes more sense to you to deinstall complete the old QCAD Version before you install the new one - but again, I'm not familiar with linux ...
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.
