Copy layer to another project

Post by ov10fac » Fri May 06, 2016 12:17 am

I need to copy a layer in project 1 to a new project. I am using Pro version 3.7.5. I can copy between layers in the same project, but that process does not work to copy a layer to a different project. I have tried the modify-move/copy, approach, and the Edit-copy-paste approach and neither works.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Just work with the clipboard and it will work.

Open both (source + target) drawings in QCad,
Select the layer in the source drawing which needs to be copied ,
use the clipboard tool "Copy" or "Copy with reference",
make the target drawing active,
use the clipboard tool "Paste" and paste it into the drawing. Done!
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Thank you, that did the trick. However, what is interesting, the objects are copied and the layers are copied. But the objects are not copied to the correct layer. They are all copied to layer 0?

Thanks again.

I'm pretty sure QCAD is doing what you told QCAD to do ...

If you launch the Paste tool an Option bar will pop up with different options. Tell QCAD what you need - if you don't need the clipboard content on the current layer (0?) then just deselect the option box for "To current layer".

Ok, so now I do feel incompetent. Yep, that's exactly what I was doing I checked the "overwrite", but didn't uncheck the "to current". Silly me. Many thanks for the kind advice.
