[solved] too many duplicates
Using 3.9.7 on Win7-64
I am working on a rather simple simple drawing, dwg less than 50 kb, and at one point I checked for duplicates. I found more than half a dozen on top of each others, simple entities and blocks, I started deleting and the program crashed...The initial file grew to 4.5 MB, to the point that the program hangs if I try to edit the file!
While testing with another copy, I cleaned one block so that one sample only was left, saved the current drawing and then stated to delete dupes on another block, the process was becoming slower after each pass and then QCAD crashed.
I reopened the same file and the dupes were back on the first block I had cleaned and saved...
I'm attaching that copy of the file if you wish to have a look

Re: too many duplicates
I cannot quite reproduce the problem here although I can see that the file is full of duplicates.
Can you load the attached cleaned up file and check if there are any duplicates on your installation?
If not, please save it and load it again and check again if there are any duplicates. Thanks.

Re: too many duplicates
Hi J-J, Andrew
One thing I noticed is that if you select the layer 'cotation lineaire' and turn all of the other layers off, you will see that once selected there are 702 dimensions selected - wow that's a lot of dimensions!
Then if I run the detect duplicates command I get 702 duplicates found, hey, I'm just wondering how that many got there in the first place.
J-J, Did you somehow mistakenly multiply something to produce all of these ?

Re: too many duplicates
On the first opening of the fixed file, all appeared OK.
Then I saved it withe a new name and made a few changes: moved a block, added a dim. Saved again and closed QCAD
Restart QCAD, open the latest file...I have four dupes of each entity!... pulling my hair
I'll keep on testing

Re: too many duplicates
OK, thanks. How about opening the file and simply saving it again (under a new name) without making any changes? I'm trying to figure out if the duplication occurs during saving, loading or somewhere else. Thanks.
Re: too many duplicates
Hello J-J,
I used "Misc / Block / Export Blocklist" to get the Infos about how many blocks are used ...
Your drawing:
Count Block Name
0 *Paper_Space
0 *Paper_Space0
1 axe horiz
0 *Model_Space
518 bague pom
512 chape fixe
128 bôme H
128 bôme
1040 cale
576 axe Vert top
2 axe vertical coté
72 axe vertical
... the cleaned drawing has now this:
Count Block Name
0 *Paper_Space
0 *Paper_Space0
1 axe horiz
0 *Model_Space
2 bague pom
1 chape fixe
2 bôme H
2 bôme
4 cale
1 axe Vert top
2 axe vertical coté
2 axe vertical
Here is my cleaned test drawing:
I cleaned the drawing by myself and tried to reproduce your experience but I can't. After cleaning ... everything works just as expected.J-J wrote:Restart QCAD, open the latest file...I have four dupes of each entity!...

Re: too many duplicates
Hi guys,
I think I found the culprit: me
I was invoking "DP" instead of "MD". I got the hint when I saw that the dupe numbers were multiples of 2. Sorry about the trouble, I don't use keyboard command much.

Re: [solved] too many duplicates
Thanks for the update, glad it's sorted.
I'll a command line message feedback to the duplicate command to make such an error easier to spot in the future.

Goodcommand line message feedback to the duplicate command
Coming back to the "delete duplicates", in a case there are several, is there a way to to delete all but one in one shot, I could not figure it out?

Re: [solved] too many duplicates
I'm pretty sure that Andrew has a better solution than me (and I'm curious to hear about it) but here is how I handle something like this without the Duplicate finder.J-J wrote:... in a case there are several, is there a way to to delete all but one in one shot, I could not figure it out?command line message feedback to the duplicate command
Select the "Suspected" Objects with Mouse Rectangle selection right to left move - eye on Property Editor.
I selected 100 Polygons ...
Press "Shift" Key on the Keyboard and deselect with "One" Left Mouse click one Polygon out of this bunch of selections. You will only see that the count in the Property Editor will drop from 100 to 99 ...
Hit then "Delete" and 99 Polygons are gone ...
... one left and that is all what I need!
Hope it helps ...
