Problems installing 3,0 on Ubuntu 12.04

Post by RayArdia » Sat Oct 06, 2012 9:52 am

Re original post by RayArdia on Ubuntu 12.04 Woes » Wed Oct 03, 2012 6:59 pm
Having had all sorts of problems withQCAD 2.2 Prof when used with Ubuntu 12.04 so decided to download ver 3.0.
Can't get it to install or run so tried to follow advice given variously in this foru, especially by hungerberg et al.
The 'equivs-build --arch i386 qcad3-deps.txt' bit seemed to go OK but when I tried 'sudo dpkg -i qcad3-deps_1.0_i386.deb' I got this:-
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~$ sudo dpkg -i qcad3-deps_1.0_i386.deb
dpkg: error processing qcad3-deps_1.0_i386.deb (--install):
cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Errors were encountered while processing:
qcad3-deps_1.0_i386.deb

Then tried to use the .rar file suggested in hungerberg's post results below:-

ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86$ sudo dpkg -i qcad3-deps_1.0_i386.deb
Selecting previously unselected package qcad3-deps.
(Reading database ... 322096 files and directories currently installed.)
Unpacking qcad3-deps (from qcad3-deps_1.0_i386.deb) ...
Setting up qcad3-deps (1.0) ...
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86$

ls shows:-

ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86$ ls
assistant libQtDesigner.so.4 libQtXmlPatterns.so.4
doc libQtGui.so.4 libQtXml.so.4

dwg2pdf libQtMultimedia.so.4 patterns
dwg2svg libQtNetwork.so.4 plugins
examples libQtOpenGL.so.4 qcad
fonts libQtScript.so.4 qcad3-deps_1.0_i386.deb
libQtCLucene.so.4 libQtScriptTools.so.4 qcad-bin

libQtDBus.so.4 libQtSvg.so.4 readme.txt

libQtDesignerComponents.so.4 libQtWebKit.so.4 ts
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86$

I'm now lost, where do I go from here to run and use QCAD 3? Would be most grateful for any help, I want to stick with QCAD, having tried Librecad which I don't find as good as QCAD (when it's going well!).

What is the output of simply trying to run QCAD as follows?

cd ~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86
./qcad

If you are running a 64bit flavor of Ubuntu, did you install ia32-libs? If not, try:

sudo apt-get install ia32-libs

On a standard installation of Ubuntu 12.04 64bit, you shouldn't have to do more than that to run QCAD 3.
On a standard installation of Ubuntu 12.04 32bit, QCAD 3 should run out of the box.

Thankyou Andrew,
Have now been able to move forward!
Output from Terminal was:-
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86$ ./qcad
Debug: TIMER: 544 ms - "loading plugins"
Debug: TIMER: 2641 ms - "initializing plugins"
Must admit I had to be away from my laptop for quite a while so don't really know what went on, but the result was that QCAD 3.0 appears to have opened OK. Will investgate.
Do I need to open it from Terminal each time with your 'magic'(to me!) command, or is there an easier way?
Very grateful for your help - as I usually am!
Ray

Ray: Please check if the file "/home/ray/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86/scripts/Widgets/ClipboardDisplay/ClipboardDisplay.ui" exists and is readable by user 'ray'.
If that is not the case, make sure that the tar.gz file was extracted properly. This might not be the case if your partition is full or the download was not complete or a similar problem occurred.

Please delete your installation and install again:

First, download the package qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86.tar.gz into ~/QCAD

Then:

Code: Select all

cd QCAD
rm -rf qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86
tar xfvz qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86.tar.gz

Your downloaded file seems to be incomplete. Please download the file again and pay attention to the following common issues when downloading files from the Internet:

- You might want to clear the browser cache first to make sure it does not give you the same, incomplete file again and again. Alternatively, you may want to use another browser.
- Please wait while the download is in progress until it is complete. Incompletely downloaded files will not install or run.
- Do not quit the browser while downloading.

Did as you suggested, cleared the Firefox cache and loaded the commands in your post. Lots of output (too much to quote here I think) but end result APPEARS to be that QCAD 3.0 is installed. Now all I have to do is get it to start!
Do I always need to start from Terminal - if so what command please? If I want to start from Dash how can I make that happen?
I really am sorry to keep on having to ask stupid questions, but I've tried to learn how to use the command line but have failed to get much further than cd, ls and apt-get! Where can I find an idiot's guide to using the command line?
With continued thanks for your help,
Ray

Please start QCAD as indicated above:

Code: Select all

cd ~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86
./qcad
This is the recommended way to start QCAD. There are of course alternative ways, but let's start with this, to eliminate other sources of potential errors.

thanks Andrew, that works fine - just a tiny bit long-winded!
How do I get it to open from Launcher?

Just noticed when I went back to Terminal that some extra text appeared below the previous commands:-
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~$ cd ~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86
ray@ray-Aspire-5735:~/QCAD/qcad-3.0.0-prof-linux-x86$ ./qcad
Debug: TIMER: 353 ms - "loading plugins"

Debug: RDwgImporter::importFile: force version to 2010
Warning: RAction::terminate: view is not a QObject
Warning: RAction::terminate: view is not a QObject
Debug: autosave skipped [21:47:22]: no modifications

What's all that about?
