(1) Is it possible to specify blocked out areas? An example would be a line being positioned prevented from intersecting a particular shape during the process. An alternative is that the line molds itself to the intersecting shape (no longer being just a line).
(2) Is it possible to specify, for example, 10 circles positioned equidistant to each other along a ten inch line at one time?

Re: blocked areas / repeated objects
This seems interesting, what end result are you trying to produce? Is this for a manufactured product or some craft work or a plan for something?
It would be good if you could explain a bit more for your question 1 in particular!

Re: blocked areas / repeated objects
I am wanting to use QCad to design string art (see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OJLQYRiWzjo). Any ideas to make this possible would be appreciated.
Please forget question (1) above. I think it is asking too much of the software.
Question (2) is still very important to me. It is necessary to figure out where to place nails equidistant to each other along a curve or line.
Here are addition questions (3) and (4).
(3) How does one get QCad to have a particular scaling each time on start up? For example, a 4"by 4" grid on the screen. Can this be gotten through a template?
(4) How does a person scale an imported bit mapped or svg image to fit in the area defined by (3). Right now imported images present at a scale of several feet across.

In this example you can see the areas that need to be modified.
By using the Modify > Breakout segment tool you can 'clean up' your drawing.
For question 2
Follow the prompts given in the command line:
Specify the target point -pick or enter in command line @1,0.
Choose correct option in the dialog window that opens (multiple copies).
Job done
*Use the same procedure for Arcs.

For question 3
Drawing units are set to Inch here, remember not to snap to grid though - you will need to snap to the Red points, which are set at 4 inch spacings.
Red points set at 4 inch intervals to cover a 400 x 400 area.
See attached dxf of a little template of a grid drawn on a separate layer which you may be able to use!Drawing units are set to Inch here, remember not to snap to grid though - you will need to snap to the Red points, which are set at 4 inch spacings.

Hi,
my - alternative/additional 2 cents .....
Question 3.
You can set a default grid in QCAD:
Question 4.
Check this tutorial from Clive - explains everything to scale Bitmaps

Re: blocked areas / repeated objects
Yes of course Husky - what am I thinking here
Obviously this is the thing to do.
I must be having a ' D`oh' moment!

I don't think so! It was just a different way to answer such a one question.clive wrote: I must be having a ' D`oh' moment!
