how do i set the scale
thinking of buying qcad but cant figure out how you set the scale for my drawings (architectural)

Thanks for your interest in QCAD.
The scale of your drawing model is always 1:1 in CAD.
When it comes to printing, you can set the scale in the print preview:
File - Print Preview
You can set the scale factor at the top to the desired value (recommended) or use the other utilities in the top tool bar to adjust the scale to fit your drawing on paper.

i have been using lineform since it has existed dont know cad at all what is 1:1 i am use to set a 1/8"=1' or 1/4"=1' scale and drawing to it can i do that with qcad

1:1 means 'real size' or 'actual size'. In other words, if a wall of a house is 5 feet long, you always construct it as 5 feet long.
Only for printing, a scale factor is applied to your drawing (without changing the actual drawing contents).
To set the scale to 1/8"=1', please proceed as follows:

- - Create a new drawing: File - New
- Open the drawing preferences dialog: Edit - Drawing Preferences- - Navigate to: General - Drawing Unit
- Set the Drawing Unit to 'Inch'
- Set the Paper Unit to 'Inch'
- Navigate to: Dimension - Dimension Settings
- Set the Label Format for Linear Dimensions to 'Architectural' (optional, but usually recommended for architectural drawings)
- Navigate to: Printing - Page
- Set the Scale to: 1/8" = 1'-0"
- Click 'OK'
- - Navigate to: General - Drawing Unit
