Draw an ellipse, select it, draw an hatch of type gravel: it doesn't appear at all.
Only for gravel.

I cannot reproduce this problem here. Please attach your drawing file.
Note that the hatch scale might be too large (no lines happen to be inside the ellipse) or too small (pattern too dense to be rendered).

Here it is.
under Windows, the scale 2 is invisible; only the scale 3 is visible.
under Linux, no one is visible at scale 2 or 3. I have increased the scales : at scale 14: invisible. At scale 15: visible (I attach the screenshot).
Increase the hatch pattern rendering timeout under:
Edit > Application Preferences > Graphics View > Appearance > Timeout for hatch rendering
Then reload the drawing.
