Add parameters to the function DL_Dxf::writeVPort.
This way users will be able to specify the desired viewport.

QGroupBox widgets with <property name=”checkable”> are not saved in Qcad3.conf

1. The Scrollbars for each window in the Viewports has the same size like the normal used scrollbars for windows. If you are working on a normal size Monitor it “steals” a lot of “working space”. Is there any possibility to make the scrollbars smaller or just a line to separate the windows so that I have to navigate with Keyboard and mouse?

2. I thing the Viewports and the View List belongs together - is it possible to get a button in the “View List / Tool Bar” to choose a Viewport style instead of “walking” the long way over the “Drawing preferences” Menu?

Save layer state (visibility) with each added view object (optional?).

It would be a nice feature to be able to define your own toolbar.

this is a usability feature request:

If you want to move an object relatively to any point (e.g. by entering @x;y in commandline) it does’nt make sense to enter a starting reference point. Of course this is possible by clicking to any location on the screen. But it’s difficult to change between mouse and keyboard so often.

It should be possible to enter a “don’t care” or “any” reference point by pressing a keyboard shortcut (e.g. enter like in AutoCAD).

If there is no selection the Properties Editor could be used to predefine the properties of to be drawn elements.

E.g. use Millimeters for construction while dimensions are displayed in Meters.

Eine oft Hilfreiche Zeit/Klick sparende Erweiterung wäre eine “Total” Option bei dem “Lengthen” Tool.

Aktuell ist es mit dieser Funktion möglich ein Element zu verlängern oder zu verkürzen um den Amount X. Der Referenzpunkt (von welchem Ende) kann bestimmt werden.

Die Erweiterung die ich mir wünschen würde wäre auch ein “Total” um ein Element auf eine bestimmte Länge zu bringen ohne einen Taschenrechner benutzen zu müssen. Referenz (welches Ende oder Mitte) sollte (muss) dafür wählbar sein.

Die Funktion “Property editor” stellt bereits über die Geometry Eigenschaften die Möglichkeit zur Verfügung einen “Total” Wert zu manipulieren. Leider bin ich aber hierbei nicht in der Lage zu bestimmen welcher Element Referenzpunkt dafür benutzt werden soll. Könnte ich die Referenz wählen (welches Ende oder Mitte) wäre auch dies dann durchaus akzeptabel

The Omega button to insert special characters is only available in rich text mode.
Make it available in simple text mode as well.

I think it’s a useful adition and makes it easy to select objects that are overlapped. I know there is a selection filter, but sometimes this is faster and/or all the objects share the same type and such things.

If I remember correctly, Inkscape has this behaviour.

Many constructions refer to a basis of elements, which stay constant in all follow-ups. As an example there is a floorplan and I would like to create different variations of room layout (e.g. A and B). In my example the basis consists of 30 layers an each variation needs 10 further ones. At last there are 50 different layers in my drawing. Designing layout A needs layer 1 to 30 (basis) and 31 to 40 (A) to be shown, but 41 to 50 (B) must be invisible. Now I modify Var.B which makes me to single click the visibility of 31 to 40 (A) to be not shown and 41 to 50 (B) to be shown. You’ve got it?

It would be great help, to save the set of all shown layers by an individual name in a pulldown-menu. Visibility of my variations could be chosen by userdefined “set of layers”, e.g. “Var-A”, “Var-B” and “Var-A_but_different”. In this way I pick just one set-name in my pulldown-list instead of marking and demarking between countless layers.

In my opinion this tool would be a small aspect in QCad but a giant leap for user-pleasentness

E.g. 0 degrees at the top, clock-wise for positive direction, alternative angle units.

I think it would be useful to add a note to the Application preferences dialog window, to explain to the user the difference between ‘Application and Drawing’ preferences and how it effects drawings in QCAD.

Attached DWG/DXF files are incorrectly read by QCAD.
They contain splines drawn using ZWCAD and saved as DWG/DXF version 2000.
Above splines are polylines created with autolisp routine which converts spline to polyline, so you can see how splines should actually be drawn.

First spline is created with fit points: 2,2 4,4 6,2
Then copied and applied weight of 2 on central control point.
Then copied again and applied weight of 0.5 on central control point.

Second spline is created with fit points: 6,2 8,4 10,2 with vertical start and end tangent.
Then copied and applied fit tolerance of 1 for fit points.

Third spline is created with fit points: 10,2 12,4 14,2 with horizontal start and end tangent.

Fourth and fifth spline are correctly drawn by QCAD.

I would like to get a shortkey like ‘+’ to rotate text at 90° clockwise.

As an old professional “documentation writer and user inteface designer” but IMHO, I’m not convinced that the “Application preferences” are correctly organised for ease of understanding and using them.
These settings are organised in 2 levels. Some of the first levels have their own settings (e.g. “Graphics view”) while most others don’t (e.g. “Load/save”). May I humbly suggest some consistency rules :
- no sub-level if there is only one subject
- no items on main level if there are already 1 or more sub-level(s).
For instance :
- sub-level “Default Dimension settings” under “Dimension” is the only sub-level : then move these items under main level “Dimension” and suppress the sub-level ;
- the items under “Graphics view” main level (with several sub-levels)could be in a sub-level named “General” ;
Actually, “Graphics view” main level is the only one which has both its own items and sub-levels )) ?

According to the changelog for version 3.9.3 the info tools and coordinate display are tied to the current drawing dimensions. For much of my use I prefer to have the dimensions format different. The main reason is that my customers want to see the format in fractions, but when I am drawing I’d rather see the decimal format to make sure what I am drawing is accurate. So I’d really be interested in seeing a separate full configuration of the display and info coordinates.

My request is that all selected entities stay selected after isometric projection, this would be useful for example if you need to modify the projection further after placing!
Maybe an extra button could be added in the ISO options?

It would be nice to have the Selection Filter also present in the Menu / Selection List

In a medium complex drawing it may be too much details to have all layers in a drawing visible at once.

Instead a number of views would be created that saves not only zoom level and position but also what layers are visible and not (as appropriate for the purpose of that particular view). This is very cumbersome (to the extent it is not really realistic) to achieve today and requires a lot of duplication of both model and layers.

The advantage of adding this is the ability to have only one model (with multiple views) and avoid duplication of work and the risk of inconsistency inherent with many copies of the model.

As a further (and natural extension to this) would be the ability to used this functionality with view-ports to be able to create (possibly many) paper-spaces from a single model. This would however require view-ports to be aware of what view they are a window into. A single change in the model would then propagate to all defined view-ports and paper-spaces.

When saving a view, it would be great if the view also saved which block (model space, layout block, or any other block) that was active at the time the view was saved and when the view is later re-activated, the corresponding block would re-activate.

Not really a bug I suppose but the save as.dgn file format is missing in snapshot 3.0.8 release.

Will this be available again soon?

I think it would be nice to have more flexibility for Prefix etc. option (not only the drop down with a given choice) and a remember function for all those fields like postfix and tolerance.

Why Remember Function:
If I use a postfix like <>” in the postfix field I’m only able to use it for this particular dimension type at this time. If I change the type (from Horizontal to vertical or what ever) I have always to repeat my postfix. The same with tolerances.

Add SPx; with x being pen number from 1-8.

- Which color corresponds to which pen number?
- What if there are more than 8 colors in a DXF files?

Identical scale expression used in Print Preview like 5:1, 5/1, 5”=1”, 5 are working flawless like expected.
Same expression used in a Viewport scale leads to different outcomes.

The Property Editor used to fix that in Paper_Space does also not accept those standard expressions.

Angle Display is decimal although the decimal display is disabled in Application Preferences.

Format should be 17° 31’ 52” instead of 17.531111.

When printing from the preview mode a standard Windows popup shows, letting me select the printer, number of copies and a page range. Unfortunately QCAD (or Windows) ignores the page range - it always prints all pages. So right now I always have to copy the parts I want to print, page them into a separate document and print that instead - even though I got all my stuff nicely lined up for printing on multiple pages.

Often in print preview I need to move the paper around and position it with the ‘Move Paper Position’ tool, which is useful, but what would be an additional extra useful option would be a ‘Place Paper Here’ tool.

Then I could simply use this tool first and then use the ‘Move Paper Position’ tool afterwards to fine tune things!

If you look at the attached image you will see that in this students file they have got their drawing spread out all over the place:(

Apparently this was possible in QCAD 2 due to the default behavior of Qt.

Hallo Andrew,

I am still busy on the never ending G-code story. Doing so I wrote a small Post Processor Tutorial for all those nerds who wants to write their own. If you like it you might add it to QCAD. However, since English is not my native tongue I suggest checking it would be wise.

Meanwhile I have downloaded the source code, and could not find the CAM’s Drill-path-script. I am now using a negative Drill Cut Depth to set a Laser Dwell time, were as a field “Dwell Time (in seconds)” in the Drill-path would be more appropiate. Is this script open source available or is it part of ‘closed part’ of QCAD?

It would be nice and helpful if we had the possibility to control the order of Attributes - shown in the property editor.
I found a solution for myself with using numbers in the Attribute definition tag - but that isn’t really a nice solution.
If I could hide my numbering ... everything would be fine for me ....

Like the Library Browser it would be nice to be able to define a extern font source folder. Especially now after we are able to create our own cxf fonts with QCAD.

The reason is the same why we have it already for the library - without it we have to copy our individual fonts manually every time after a QCAD update to use them uninterrupted for existing and new drawings.

When trying to plot a dwg or a dxf to pdf where the viewport is orientated to a different angle than north up
the data in the view port is plotted north up.
see attached DWG and pdf for clarification.

These are the versions Ubuntu 14.04 comes with, and since it’s an LTS version, it will linger around a while.

(Despite the fact that the Qt4 packages are versioned 4.8.5, qmake –version says 4.8.6, so it doesn’t find the 4.8.5 bindings.)

It would be useful to have a persistent selection button added to the ‘selection’ tool set.

This would allow the user to set persistent selection as and when needed for the current drawing one is working on, rather than going the long route through the ‘Application’ preferences dialog.

Scenario:

Drawing 1: Blockname X is part of a selection, I copy this selection into the clipboard to use it in an other drawing.

Switch to Drawing 2, this drawing has also a Blockname X but with a different content.

Use the clipboard paste function - the clipboard content will be modified (only the Block) by the drawing 2 block content.

No warning pops up - it just happens!

Previous Feature Request #1285, dated 2015, incorporated in QCADPro 3.24. I regularly adjust linetype scales on hidden, centreline and phantom lines to achieve the best appearance on the drawing when printed. I note the Paint Properties feature copies all the attributes of the chosen line but does not copy the scale. I have to change the scale of each line, even after ‘painting’. This copying all Properties is something AutoCAD does. I know I could change the line to Hidden2 etc. and tick the ‘scale lines’ box in Drawing Properties but that is not always successful- copying properties is a quick and useful way of achieving the required result.

Most of the other slightly non-standard CAD/eCAD tools I work with (e.g. Diptrace, PTC Creo Elements) use the right mouse button to drag.
So when changing between these applications, it’s slightly confusing/annoying that I need the middle mouse button to drag in QCad.
Even worse, the middle mouse button on most mice is the scroll wheel which is not really comfortable to hold while dragging.

So I’d propose an option to switch the function of the middle and right mouse button to allow users to choose the preferable option.

An option to save to dwt (drawing template) would be so very useful.
