Re: [solved] Moving the ZERO

Thanks CVH, I will reply to your post in detail later but just responds to a single point. I need to set the record straight. I never said that QCAD is a boondoggle. That would be seriously rude and false if I said that. QCAD is the best 2D Cad program I came across for linux and helps me loads afte...

Re: Moving the ZERO

Every CAM I used uses the cad generated coordinate center. Sure I can move centers in CAM but that introduces error if you use a lot of layers. As I use several layers that need to align, typically 12 or so with the first the outline and machine bounds, they all need to align properly. Moving the co...

Re: Moving the ZERO

This is a boondoggle. It is idiotic to move the entire design relative to Qcad origin. Clearly there needs to be functionality to move the coordinate origin and not bring the mountain to the man. On my part I mistaken the relative zero to mean just that, but even given that wrong assumption, the sol...

Re: Moving the ZERO

1) Cam Software uses the Cad generated ZERO for starting point where the tool should be placed. 2) You can find the ability to move the ZERO under. Go to Menu SNAP: Then at the bottom: Set Relative Zero. and Lock Relative Zero. I understand that no one seems aware of this or the functionality, but i...

[solved] Moving the ZERO

I must be missing something.

If I have a design with a ZERO I want to move then whatever I do after I save the design with the new zero, if I load it up again then the zero is at the previous place again.
It doesnt seem to save the new zero when I save a design.

What is it I misunderstand ?

Re: Moving selections inbetween layers.

Thanks a lot that fixed it. It is the first time reading solutions online that uses property editor. Real great solution and sneaky. The solutions I saw used mystery buttons on the menu and instructions that is not even in Qcad. But, the solution was right there before my eyes. Thanks to all others ...

[SOLVED] Moving selections inbetween layers.

I have trouble to move selections between Layers. Also is it possible to merge two layers into one ? As an example, this tutorial [url][/https://qcad.org/rsforum/viewtopic.php?t=2995] doesnt work for me as I cannot "Copy to Current Layer" That option is nowhere to be found in QCAD. Dont know where t...

Re: Saving Only a single layer to DXF

Done a lot by Lisp programmers for autocad. It seems to be coming up as an autocad user often. Re: Saving Only a single layer to DXF

Thanks for the workaround, this is about how I am doing it currently but it is cumbersome if you have a lot of designs. I was hoping that QCAD does this natively, as it really should.

Do you know of any other software application I can use that can do this by importing a Qcad created dxf ?

Re: Saving Only a single layer to DXF

Correct, I never had a Cam that could do that AND work with my German Techno Isel Machines. The Isels are great, but their gcode flavor is from mars. Was a bad buy in that respect.

Saving Only a single layer to DXF

I need to successively CNC individual layers of a DXF file, so I need separate DXF for each of them only containing the specific layer. I have a lot of trouble doing that and I could not explicitly find it in the manual. So how can I creat dxf's from each later in a master dxf containing all the lay...

Re: Extruding a 2-dim object

Ok, so I completely misunderstood what Qcad can do.
Well then its not going to be able to CNC any 2dim objects of uniform thickness, with chamfers in the z-direction.
Unfortunately not what I have been looking for as that is crucial for 2d objects.

Thanks for the help.

Re: Extruding a 2-dim object

So why do you have a Chamfer option then? See Modify => Chamfer
How do you chamfer an edge if it has no thickness ?

It stumps me how I can chamfer a design with zero thickness.

Re: Qcad Manual.

Attached see Proof that there is NO search field in the manual.

A PDF would be a good plaster for the bug.
