Problems when importing dxf files created on other platforms

Hi. I've had problems when importing dxfs created on other platforms (NanoCAD, AutoCAD) in that what were simple polylines are converted into polygons by the addition of a closing line between the end vertices. Has anyone else come across this issue and does anyone know how to resolve it?
