No, this is not a known problem. I have a similar setup here (OS 10.10.5, iMac with retina display).

Please try resetting your configuration:
- Quit QCAD
- Open a Finder Window
- Go > Go to Folder...
- Enter "~/.config/QCAD" (without the ")
- Click Go
- Delete file QCAD3.ini
- Start QCAD

OK. You might want to open a github account at one point. Even if you don't want to use git right now, with an account, you can even change text files directly on github using a comfortable text editor in your browser.

Line widths (or line weights) are generally not intended to represent a part of the geometry of an object. Lines with flat ends instead of round ends, line weight

From a QCAD user:
When drawing thick lines, those lines have round ends and joins. Can I use flat ends and angled joins instead (e.g. for use in a PCB layout)? And can I draw lines with a custom line width?

Please don't float the options toolbar. The options tool bar is dynamically showing different sets of widgets and unfortunately the Qt tool kit does not handle this properly when the tool bar is undocked.
