A question about DXF compatibility

Hello there.
I'm testing the Demo version of Q-Cad.
I'd have a question about the compatibility of Q-Cad with DXF.
I've concerted a DWG in DXF, and I've opened it with Q-Cad.
These draw showed a section of a tank filled with a powder, with quotations.
The result I've obtained it is:
- Ok for the general structure of the draw and for quotations;
- So so for the cross-hatching and for texture representing powder, that disappear if I save in DXf for Autocad 2000/LT200, 2004 and that are visible if I save in DXF for autocad R12/LT2, 2.5 e 10.

If I open the same DXF with Autocad I can see both cross-hatching and texture representing powder, independently form the version.
I've also converted DWG in DXF with a converter, not with autocad, and the results are the same.

Q-Cad it is not compatible with same versions of Autocad?
There are features that are completely not translable from Autocad draw to Q-Cad draw?

Thanks if someone can answer me.

Most hatch pattern names and font names are not compatible. Font standard is a save choice for all texts. Hatches might have to be redone.

Hello everybody,

Another DXF compatibility question... THE ink bottle ?

I'm using QCAD 2.2.2.0 Pro under Windows XP Home edition SP3 and prepared "amateur" architectural drawings of my project for renovating and transforming a farm building.

My architect is using VectorWorks 12 (March 2006) and cannot read or import my DXF files. Therefore she has to redraw all my drawings, looking at the PDF files. She seems to have no problems with Autocad DXF files.

Any advice as how to improve compatibility and allow her to use my files as input ?

I have never been able to open a QCAD dxf file with AutoCAD. AutoCAD always gives a message similar to "Invalid or incomplete DXF input -- drawing discarded". I've had mixed results opening QCAD dxf files with other cad programs that read the dxf format.

I have had some success using EveryDWG (http://www.opendesign.com/guestfiles) to convert QCAD files to either dxf or dwg files. The converted files open in AutoCAD. Most entities show up. Some tweaking is usually necessary to get colors, dimensions, text formats, etc. to the desired format.

Good Luck

I just noticed today that I have no problems using AutoCAD 2002 to open dxf files created using the community edition of QCAD. Just goes to show you that never is a very long time.
