Layers in Layer States

Post by Eelie » Sat Mar 25, 2023 5:27 pm

I am running version 3.27.9.0 in Windows 11 64bit
I have a number of Layer States set up in drawings and find them very useful, however, if I have to add a new layer to the drawing after I have set up Layer States I find that this new layer is turned ON in all the existing Layer States and I have to go through them all, turn it off if not needed and update the Layer State. Is there any way I can prevent this happening?

If you add a layer state then it will be based and stored on the at that moment existing layers set. If you then create a new layer it will not be recognized by any existing layer state what means Visibility/invisibility etc. of the new layer are autarch. To include a new layer to an existing layer state a update of that state is necessary.

Thank you for your reply Husky. The point I was making is that in my case a new layer created after layer states have been created does seem to be recognised by existing layer states and I have to update them all. I would be happier if they were not recognised, as you suggest, in which case I would only need to make the new layers visible where I wanted them.

Eelie,

A Layer State is a snapshot, a list of all existing layers and their states.
For a new layer created after a certain Layer State their is no entry and thus no associated states.
That Layer State will not affect the new layer at all.

You probably created Layer States and new layers intermittent.
Old states and new states will then affect newly created layers depending on the order of things.

Once all your layers exist, update all existing Layers States accordingly and you are out of the woods.
Bottom line: Creating layers is an initial process, Layers States a final process.

And of course ...
Some states are inherited from parent to child layers.

Ok, noted.
Despite your report I can't reproduce it with a 3.27.9.0 version.
Please elaborate step by step how to reproduce that behavior. Thanks.
