Hello,
Windows 10. QCAD 3.28.1.
Is it possible to switch a layers visibility off for a particular layout but leave the visibilty on for other layouts & model space?
Example use,
Layer 1. Building & offices outline
Layer 2. Ground floor office details.
Layer 3. First floor office details.
Layout 1. Layers 1 & 2 switched on & layer 3 switched off.
Layout 2. Layers 1 & 3 switched on & layer 2 switched off.
I understand I can switch the layers on or off to satisfy each layout before I print but is there a way with QCAD to switch layers on & off per layout and leave the layer settings set?
In my example it would be easy to remember and switch layers on and off per layout but as a drawing develops and has more layers etc it would become more tedious and more likely to make mistakes.
I found and considered 'layer states' today and to some extent they would improve the situation.
Is there a better way?

Re: Layer visibilty associated with layout block
Assuming I understood your goal correctly - most likely layer states are your best bet.
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Re: Layer visibilty associated with layout block
Hi,
I think that there is already a misconception about the layer construction.
https://www.ribbonsoft.com/en/tutorial- ... ith-layers
Meaning that a layer is intended to group all thing that should look alike, printed alike.
Continuous, dashed, thick, thin, red, blue, ...
And thus layers are not intended to diversify between 'Ground floor' and 'First floor' in the first place.
Layer States store all the layer attributes: Visibility, frozen, locked, plottable, snappable, color, lineweight and type.
If we then look at the layer state tutorial: https://www.ribbonsoft.com/en/tutorial- ... yer-states
There are but two layers with hatches for the 3 given looks:
- Walls (solid filled)
- Walls Hatch (patterned)
The states are then:
- Normal: Walls Hatch = off, Walls = on, Walls color = cyan
- Printing: Walls Hatch = on, Walls = off, Walls color doesn't matter
- Webpage: Walls Hatch = off, Walls = on, Walls color = dark cyan
This request pops up now and then.
And even 'Layer visibilty associated with Viewports'.
E.g. for several different looking viewports on one and the same Layout.
Or 'Normal' & 'Printing' & 'Webpage' on the same page.
The question I then ask myself is how we are going to configure all that while keeping an overview.
Remember that layer states are best defined in a final stage as they don't store attributes of additional created layers.
Of course one can update them afterwards but that might be a big hustle too.
Normally we combine things that are part of the same geometry in Blocks.
But if we do that for different floors of a building we will quickly end up with what Husky calls 'Massive blocks'.
The solution is then to set them apart side by side and not stacked ... layered.
The building outline can then still be a Block that is inserted several times.
Regards,
CVH

(solved) Layer visibilty associated with layout block
Thanks to both Husky & CVH for clarifying the point.
