Select 2 or more elements and combine to create one

Post by NJLeather » Tue Apr 02, 2024 6:19 am

Hello.

I'm using sketch to create 2d drawings for leather patterns.

For example, if I create half a curve using the spline tool (free snap), copy/paste it and then flip it horizontally and then connect the two to create a perfect mirror... How do I then combine them into ONE element?

TIA for any suggestions.

Hi, and welcome to the QCAD forum.

Creating a linked chain of line and/or arc segments from loose elements can be done by polylines entities.
One can convert existing line-art into polylines.
Things that are no line and/or arc segments are approximated by such, see the Explode preferences for the used methods/tolerances.
Also meaning that you can not chain up splines or ellipses (-arcs) in direct.

If the splines are important in a later stage then preserve a copy on a hidden/frozen/locked layer.
After being exploded there is no easy way back except the 'Undo'-chain in the current session.
You might want to Explode (XP) in a manual step instead of merging auto-exploded content into a polyline.

Another solution might be Blocks, these are intended to group geometry.
From a selection we can create a Block by BC, this stores the items in a Block definition and replaces that by a Block Reference.
See: https://www.ribbonsoft.com/doc/qcad/lat ... ck_en.html
A Block Reference is also a single entity ... Referring to a collection of entities.
