Open drawing or open using template and with provided templates.
Any help appreciated.

Open drawing or open using template and with provided templates.

A QCAD template is based on a common drawing. Telling QCAD where to find it and how to open it makes it to a template which then will be used as the starting point for a new drawing. The new drawing is then a copy of that chosen template - the template itself will remain unchanged.

... and the best way if you have to deal with different template styles.

If you are looking to use most of the time the same template then it makes sense to tell QCAD to start always with one and the same default template. The "New" command will support the default template too. You can find the setting in the same dialog:

Thanks Husky
The problem is no matter how I open templates they appear in both model and paper space.
I downloaded a template from the forum that functions as desired so I wiil just modify to My needs.
I have been a Acad user since mid 80's so lot of habits to break.
Thanks for quick response.

You're welcome.

Most templates provided by QCAD itself or as a download from this forum are meant as a (hopefully) good stating point for the customer but to 99% they have to be modified for the individual needs.

ANSI A-E with block attributes puts template on both model and paper space.
Only one i tried was A.
Imperial template with ANSI A Blocks.dxf
This one works. I mean no template on modelspace.
I am slowly sorting things out.
Thanks

Please consider a Template as a "whole thing" which is still open for adjustments in the following drawing process. It can include Layer, Blocks, entities and all kind of settings for "Drawing Preferences" and is not limited to Model Space or Paper Space.
In the process of creating a template you will adjust it a few times before it is "next to perfect" but then the work will pays off ...
