[solved] Starting QCAD with last used file open by default

Post by robdv57 » Wed Apr 22, 2020 11:47 pm

Is there a way to change the default setting such that QCAD will open the last used file instead of a blank one on startup? I would benefit from the former at least 10 times as often as the latter. If not available now, a possibility in the future? Using Pro version 3.23.0 with Windows 10.

No but you have a list of last used drawings below Menu / Edit / Open recent ...

But only if QCAD wasn't already launched ...

Note: If QCAD wasn't already launched and your Windows file associations are set to dxf/dwg -> open with QCAD then you can use the Windows File explorer to open it directly in QCAD with a double click ...

This is sort of a hack but it does work. And might be viable if you're working on the same file for a long period of time.
Using a shortcut on your desktop change the target information to something like this using your own file name and path.
Note the second part is double quoted because the folder name has a space in it.

Target: "C:\Program Files\QCAD\qcad.exe" "d:\qcad drawings\DrawingName.dxf"

Then whenever you launch that qcad shortcut, it will launch and open your named file. You could even change the shortcut name
to "Qcad YourProjectName" by copying the shortcut and creating one just for a project.
