New Computer - Some Functions Changed??

Post by holmburgers » Sat Apr 19, 2025 6:44 pm

Hi All,

I've been using QCAD for over 5 years now, and although not an expert, feel very proficient at the things I need to do.

However, I just got a new travel computer (Lenovo ThinkPad X270, Windows 10 Pro), downloaded QCAD (3.32.2.0 (3.32.2)), and there are a few things that have changed, or I haven't set them up right, and they are really cramping my style! Please help me if you can!

My primary computer is a ThinkPad T590 and it runs Windows 11 Pro, with QCAD version 3.28.1.0 (3.28.1).

I am a huge keyboard shortcut guy and try to do as much as humanly possible before I touch the mouse.

The two biggest things that are bothering me are related to this:

1. When I do a command like RS (rectangle) or LH (line horizontal), I am very used to being able to immediately start typing the dimension on the number pad and it jumps right to the length or dimension field(s). This no longer works with my new computer, and I have to click on the field with the mouse. This sounds like a little thing, but if you are really working fast, this is a huge pain!

2. Similarly, when making a circle (CA) or rectangle (RS), I loved being able to hold control and type a number on the number pad to select my orientation point (upper left, center, bottom right, etc.), and this function is also now lost.

I looked through all of the options and I couldn't find anything that seemed right or made a difference.

Please help!

Thanks in advance,

Hi, and welcome to the QCAD forum.

Indeed, since 3.28.1(2023) there are several changes made.
Including many enhancements, additions and several bug fixes.
Consult the QCAD Changelog.

A recent (3.30.0) enhancement of QCAD pro are dynamically assigned shortcuts for tool options on the Options Toolbar.
These shortcuts all start with a comma.
See Changelog under heading '3.30.0 (2024/06/13)'
Also see tutorial: 2.1 Keyboard Shortcuts

There was some additional fixing afterwards (... 3.32.1)

When you start typing in a value that is send to the first input field on the Option Toolbar.
For CA that is the Diameter field, for LH the Length field and for RS that would be the Radius field.
This behavior has not changed to my knowledge.

One can use TAB to go to the first or next input field.
Note that Esc or Enter stops the process of entering values in Options Toolbar.

The Reference Point drop-down items are addressable with shortcuts ,1 to ,3 (Lines) or ,9 (Shapes).
For 3.31.0 these were reinstated as Ctrl+1 ... 9.
I can use both methods using 3.32.2 on a Win7 platform installed with the ZIP-file.

Regards,
CVH
