ye ole clipboard

Regarding Copy to clipboard:
I have drawn an item on the wrong layer, so i thought ok we can remedy this i will copt it to the clip board paste onto a separate detail drawing as i intend anyway, then copy that to the clip board and go back and paste it on the correct layer. but no.. i have offended the gods with the first mistake and they refuse to forgive me! it appears on the wrong layer as before and refuses to find its way onto the new layer as intended by my cunning enterprise.
i think i need clear the clip board between pastings right? but i don't see a clear clip board option.
is it possible cut with reference would work to delete any attachment it has with the wrong layer?

Probably the quickest way to change the layer of an entity it by using the property editor (View > Property Editor):

1. Select the entity(ies)
2. Change the layer property in the property editor:

You can also do this, yes. However, by default, copy and paste does not change the layer an entity is on. This is important as otherwise, copy and paste would very quickly mess up your layer structure. If you copy a circle with center lines on layers 'outlines' and 'center lines', you probably want them to be on the same layer when pasting:

If you really want to paste copied entities onto the current layer instead, you can do so by ticking the option 'To current layer' when pasting:
