Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
I have been unable to view some layers of some .dwg files that were sent to me. I assume the drawings were created on AutoCAD, but I don't know that for sure. I have another CAD package (TurboCAD) that opens all the layers (but I much prefer QCAD Pro 3). I sent the files to a moderator on one of these QCAD forums and he suggested I contact Andrew for further assistance. The file(s) are too large to attach here.
Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Hello alcpe,
How big they are? Would it work via PM or e-mail?alcpe wrote: The file(s) are too large to attach here.
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Two files, about 1MB each. But just one file will be sufficient to see the issue.
Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
That should work with pm. Please send them to me and I will have a look. If you are facing difficulties via PM I will give you my e-mail.alcpe wrote:Two files, about 1MB each. But just one file will be sufficient to see the issue.

Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Did you receive the PM. It just said PM file limitation is 256 kb. My files are too large for PM.
Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Hi alcpe - thank you for the files via e-mail.
I think the problem is based on 3D information in the original drawing. QCAD is 2D and not able to handle 3D.
I tried to get rid of the 3D information (Flatten Drawing to 2D) but wasn't successful. Sorry but maybe Andrew has additional thoughts on this.

Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Well, perhaps part of the problem is a 3D issue. But one layer not visible in QCAD is the drawing's border; another invisible layer just shows room numbers (i.e. text only). I wouldn't think those layers are 3D.

Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
The TurboCAD software I have that can view all layers of the files is 2D only.
Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
I particularly need these 2 layers to be visible: A-ANNO-RMNM-E and A-ANNO-IDEN-E.
Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
I doubt that but I can't say it for sure. If I check your original drawing in the Autodesk Viewer then I've two results:alcpe wrote:Well, perhaps part of the problem is a 3D issue. 3D - what shows what you are looking for ...
... and 2D - which will ignore the same layer like QCAD did.
What I would try in your position is to open this drawing in TurboCad and try to get rid of this 3D information. Then save the drawing (try dwg, dxf etc) under a new name and check it again in QCADalcpe wrote:The TurboCAD software I have that can view all layers of the files is 2D only.
I'm sure.alcpe wrote:Will Andrew review this discussion?

Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Thanks for your help. TurboCAD is difficult (for me) to use (one reason I prefer QCAD). I wish I knew how to convert the 3D layers into 2D. My TurboCAD may not be able to do that since it is a 2D design package.
Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Please send the file by e-mail to info AT ribbonsoft DOT com. Without the file, this is a wild goose chase for me as well. Thanks.
Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
alcpe: Could it be that you are looking for the layout / paper space?
- View > Block List
- Doubleclick on "FullsizeD (2) (*Paper_Space)"

Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Wow! THANK YOU!!!
Re: Unable to Read Layers in Some .dwg Files
Andrew, there is still one layer I am unable to see in QCAD: A-FLOR-PATT-E. I don't really need that layer, but I'm curious why that seem to be the only layer not visible in QCAD. Thanks much!
