3D Printing from QCAD

Post by smizr » Thu Sep 27, 2018 10:46 pm

Hello,

I'm using QCAD version 3.21.2.0

I'm having difficulty printing my QCAD designs in 3d even after exporting a new .svg or .dxf

Screens and files are attached.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Please ellaborate:
- How do you intend to 3D print a 2D drawing (where does the height information come from)?
- How did you proceed to get to that point of the screenshot? Did you convert the QCAD DXF to STL? If so, how?

Generally speaking, 3D printing software expects files that define 3D objects (i.e. surfaces made from triangles). This can for example be STL.

As far I know Ultimaker Cura cannot import DXF or SVG. This also probably wouldn't make much sense since both DXF and SVG contain 2D primitives (lines, arcs, circles, splines, etc.) and not the required 3D triangles.

Thanks for the response Andrew

The intention was to export a 2D svg or stl for cura or 123design. From there, I could use the program to manually extrude the 2d points into a 3d model and print.

I used every export option on QCAD and none of them worked as an import for Cura or 123Design.

But I think you're saying that Cura can only read STL's, correct?

Thanks again.

You'd have to talk to the Cura people for details, but I can't see any DXF/SVG import in Cura.
