[solved] Dimensions causes QCAD slow panning.

Post by planksworkshop » Sun Jan 12, 2020 10:36 pm

Hello. Drawing house construction plans. Started dimensioning the foundation and notice slowing panning and zooming (like dragging a kite through water) At this rate of slowing i fear i wont get finished my project before QCAD comes to a grinding halt. Try this: Turn off "Foundation DIMS" in Layer List, Autozoom, Pan. Then turn on "Foundation DIMS" in Layer List, Autozoom, Pan. Thanks

Hello,

I tested your drawing on a Win10, 8GB RAM and a slower processor.

Long story short - handling speed works like a charm.

I tested the mentioned "Foundation DIMS" settings - zoom/pan etc is processed in a fraction of a second.
To go even further - I made all layer visible, thaw and unlocked all of them. Processing time = excellent.
Drawing new entities - executed in an instant.

Your hardware should be faster than mine! I don't think that QCAD is the culprit. Is there something else on your system what could slow it down? Background antivirus scans etc ... ?
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Thanks for checking. Strange as now i've tried running the file on 4 other computers with worse results. Its like panning through molasses. Do you use Nvidia graphics on Windows 10? That's my common factor among my computers.

Hi,
Panning as a charm on my old desktop.
Like Husky, all layers on, all selected, picked and moved around.
No problem.

?? Font maybe.
?? Try to turn off hatches

Font Bahnschrift....Is not installed on my PC.
Don't know how Qcad handles this.
Is the font face included in the dxf?
Is the font replaced?

Regards,
CVH

The problem seems to be Nvidia related or 2560 x 1440 Hi DPI monitors as on one of my Laptops with Intel graphics and 1920 x 1080 screen is acceptable. Blender, Freecad .19 pre, Sketchup 2018, Progecad 2019, Turbocad 2017 all fly on my computers. All clean windows 10 installs wit no anti-virus. What does QCAD use, OpenGL? Any ideas?

Thanks CVH. Got me thinking on the Font Bahnschrift. It is a newer "Variable font" designed by Microsoft, Google, and Adobe. Makes beautiful prints. Change dimension and text fonts to "Standard font" (1980's ugly) and viola! Qcad is fast again. I guess QCAD has trouble rendering this new Font format. Thanks.

Would you, can you, share the font file?

Hi CVH. Read more about the font here https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/typogr ... ahnschrift. Using this font in dimensions slows QCAD to a crawl on Windows 10. Don't know about Windows 7. Cheers.
