Layers - Line Type not working

Has anyone had issues with the Line Type under layers not displaying correctly?

Doesn't seem to matter if I choose dash-dot, Dot, Dash etc all I get is a solid line

I'm new to this but can't seem to get it to work, what am I doing wrong?
