Measurements taken with and without snap not equal on identical distance

Post by sirek » Tue May 03, 2022 10:10 am

I have an odd problem that I haven't seen before. The file in question was supplied to me in DWG-format.

When taking measurements in the file, or drawing lines, I don't get the same distance for distances with identical measures depending on if I draw/measure with snap or without (free).

Please see below screenshot. Lines are obviously almost identical in length, but differ -- a lot!

I attach a dxf-file demonstrating the problem.

Might this be a bug, or has it got something to do with the file itself?

I'd be very happy for every suggestion or workaround to try.

I've tried to import the drawing into a new drawing, but the problem seems to come with then as well.

The drawing has Z coordinates (3D). A measurement with snap takes these into account, a freehand measurement doesn't.

Try:
Misc > Modify > Flatten Drawing to 2D

Thanks! That's it.

How can I find out that it has z-coordinates?

You can enable Z coordinates in the property editor under:
Edit > Application Preferences > Widgets > Property Editor
