How do I draw a line with a squared-off end?

Lines in QCAD (when zoomed in close) all have rounded or radiused ends.

For my application I need to create wide lines with squared-off ends.

Is is possible to do this in QCAD with out stacking a number of narrow lines next to each other?

Hmmmm.
When I pull up the Property Editor for my polylines there doesn't seem to be any Global Width property that I can change.
Any ideas as to why?
Is it because I'm using QCAD Community Edition?

I think you are correct. That feature is only available in the PRO (paid) version.
Here is the list of all features with items in blue italics being options only available
in the Pro Version:

Yes. I move the topic to the "Community Edition" forum.
