Block BOM

Post by swoten » Tue Mar 21, 2023 10:27 pm

Hi all.
I am working with a file where someone used a block to have a list like BOM, where there are columns and rows of text. I'd like to get all the text values out of that block into a spreadsheet. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks

Moved to Chat until I've more information.
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

Maybe - maybe not. QCAD has currently no tool to extract text for a spreadsheet but I could think about a workaround. However - feasibility depends on how they did the text formatting. Any chance that you attache an example drawing with such a block to your post?

Andrew provided in the command tool dwg2csv (also dxf2csv).
QCAD Pro and it is an all-rounder.
Only, it doesn't run in the QCAD GUI and doesn't take a selection as source for example.
https://www.ribbonsoft.com/en/products/ ... ls#dwg2csv

I used that before to extract hundreds of tag plates to engrave but getting it to run on a multi user Win system can be tricky.
Filter export on text, include X/Y position and plain text.
That will export all text entities in the drawing and then filter and sort on the text location in the spreadsheet.
With a few Cut/Paste's in the spreadsheet you have everything arranged as in the drawing.

Sure, Copy/Paste but that's a tedious repetitive task with long lists.
For a few entries it will be faster than the dwg2csv method.

For many of such repetitive tasks custom scripting is the better solution.
Exporting all selected text entities arranged in a column textual to CSV is not that hard.
Especially because there are already some script addons for CSV export shared on the forum.
The basics are readily availible.
Rows and columns may be more complex, certainly when there are empty 'cells'.

An example drawing or just part of it may tell us more what route will be more convenient.
Also see Forum Rules above.
