QCAD 3.12.5 Unable to use dxf file in any other program

Post by gabbello » Mon Feb 01, 2016 2:29 pm

Hello,

I have created some *.dxf files both on windows and linux machines and I can not open them with any other software (autocad, corel, etc).

Even programs like turboCAD or convertors like "any dwg/dxf convertor" or teigha report the files as invalid.

Also, when I hit save as I only have one option: "Format: R15 (2000/LT2000) DXF Drawing (dxflib) (*.dxf)". I thought that I can export to dwg or at least have more formats available. It is extremlly bad for me since the guys for who I do these files do not use QCAD and I'm not at all a profesional with vector software so I spent a lot of time doing this.

I have attached to this topic some examples.

Are you using QCAD Professional or the free QCAD Community Edition?

In the latter case, you can only read and write DXF R15. Compatibility with other products is indeed limited.

QCAD Professional offers support for various versions of the DXF and DWG format using a Teigha plugin. These files are guaranteed to be compatible with other products.

Hi gabbello

Your file opens fine in AutoCAD 2016 and Adobe Illustrator Cs6 - no problems for me.

Who is using the 'other software' you or the guys doing the laser cutting?

I'm using the Community Edition indeed.

Clive, can you please try to save it in a few diffrent formats and send it back to me. I will be very grateful if you can do this. I even installed the free verison from Autocad 2016 on a window machine and when I try to open them a message with "Press Enter to continue", but then nothing seem to happen.

No problem, hope it works for you.

You say you are not a professional with vector software .. but you have made a good job of your work, well done.

I suggest that you trial the professional version, you will not be disappointed, it will give you so much more quality options :)
