File size

Post by sudo_ki » Thu Nov 21, 2019 11:08 pm

After install QCAD I must say it's pretty handy. The only problem I am having is opening and viewing large dwg files.

I have tried with both a 30MB and 10MB and it seems to crash. I don't think this is a limit of my system as i have tried both ZWCAD and AutoCAD and it works fine.

Even though I like it, maybe QCAD isn't for me.... :(

QCAD isn't really developed to handle extreme large file sizes. 30MB could be a problem, 10MB not sure ...
Of course it depends also on the used hardware. I recommend to test intensive QCAD before you decide to buy it or not to buy it.

Would it be possible for you to post those drawings in question? Maybe we can figure how to handle them.
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

He're a link to the file in question.

It's a cadastral map of Harjumaa, a region in estonia. Made from the following assets https://geoportaal.maaamet.ee/eng/Spatial-Data-p58.html

Thanks for the link.

I tried to open the drawing with QCAD Pro - it fails and freezes everything ...
I tried to open it with other 2D CAD programs - it fails too.
I tried to open it with the Autodesk viewer - again - it fails and runs into a never ending loop.

Long story short: If that is the kind of drawings what you have to deal with then QCAD doesn't fit your needs.

thanks for your investigation and interest :)

I wonder what it is that zwcad and autocad lt do in terms of memory management which means they can work with it. Don't suppose we have any dev's reading this. :?:

FYI I am going to work around it using 'export to dxf' in QGIS. Of course it would be more convenient to use this dwg. But I think I like QCAD just enough to add a few more mouse clicks at the beginning of each project :)

Sounds like a plan.
If you need to save it afterward back to dwg QCAD Pro is able to save the drawing in any dwg format from R11 to R32.
