Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon, QCAD Pro 3.24.2.0
'Clip to Rectangle' decomposes the letters of text into their constituent segments.
To reproduce: enter text (I used Deja Vu Sans). Modify > Clip to Rectangle. Draw a box around the text. Letters are decomposed and can no longer be edited as text.

Confirmed.
For 'Clip to Rectangle' to work the entities are exploded before clipping.
Furthermore no font has 'clipped' Glyphs.

Yes, this tool needs to explode the entities before it can exercises the clip.
Common practice is to have such text on a separate layer. Lock this layer or toggle it to invisible and your text stays untouched ...
