Crash when saving

Post by Doug G » Sun Apr 12, 2020 7:10 pm

I am new to QCAD and am having a problem when saving. Every time I try to save my work I get an error and the program shuts down. I loaded QCAD to my laptop and it seems to work fine there. Any ideas what might be causing the problem on my desktop? I am using windows 8.1

Thanks, Doug

The desktop has the same OS like the laptop?
Both are 32 oe 64 bit?
Which QCAD version you are using? Same version used on both systems?
Does it happens with all drawings or only with one particular? Only one then please attache the drawing to this topic.
If you played around with multiple QCAD installation (Trial, Pro etc.) then it is crucial that you haven't mixed different versions in the same directory. Is that given?
Work smart, not hard: QCad Pro
Win10/64, QcadPro, QcadCam version: Current.

My system is 64 bit and I loaded the 64 bit version of QCAD. All I did is draw a line and try to save. I also loaded a drawing that I had made in draftsight and tried to save as, same problem.

Sounds good to me ...

The error message looks like it is a windows and not a QCAD issue. Unfortunately it could be triggered for many reasons.
Right now the best think what I can think of is to try to ...
... run QCAD in a compatibility mode. I can't remember anymore which options are given in Win7 but just try to run it on a Windows version which is older as Win7. Vista, XP, ME or so ..
Maybe this link helps:
https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/10436/u ... windows-7/

... the other thing would be to test the 32 bit QCAD version. Remember not to mix different version of QCAD in the same directory. Paralell installations are ok but you can't run them at the same time.

Please try:
- Start QCAD
- Edit > Application Preferences > File > Open/Save > File Dialog > Use system file dialog (UNcheck this preference)
- Restart QCAD

QCAD (Qt) will then use its own file dialog instead of trying to use the Windows native file dialog which might be causing the problem.

I have the same problem as Doug G.

I downloaded QCAD Pro yesterday. I never had a trial or any other version. When I first tried to save a simple file it caused the program to "Not Responding". I tried andrews fix but it still will not save, save as, open any file. It does autosave though.

QCAD Pro: 3.24.3.0 64bit

Windows 8.1

System
Processor: Intel (R) Core™ i3-4160 CPU @ 3.60Hz 3.6 GHz
System Type: 64-bit Operating System, x64-based processor

Did you also try the 32bit version?

Thanks andrew.
I uninstalled the 64 bit version and installed the 32 bit version.
It appears to be saving files properly now.
