inefficient PDF generation - large file size

Post by baggiero » Mon Oct 12, 2009 11:28 am

The internal "Export as PDF" function produces enormous files compared with printing to a ghostscript pdf-generating printer driver (checked on windows, will test on mac too) -
2Mb vs 20Kb order of magnitude, with zero discernable visible difference in output. I'm guessing you might be using the ghostscript code internally - maybe some option or other that is or isn't selected?

File - PDF Export exports PDF at a higher coordinate resolution. That means that elements are more accurately positioned. You might only see that very clearly if you have an arc with a large radius that connects for example to a line.

- When exporting to PDF, you can use the print preview, and scale the
drawing by a factor like 1:5, 1:10.
This will make the exported PDF file smaller; but when viewing that
PDF file you will see your drawing covering just a small portion of the
sheet, with not too much possibility for zooming it.

- Also, in "Current Drawing Preferences", In "Paper" tab, you can
adjust the paper format to a custom value to be able to adjust the
page size accordingly to the scale used in print preview.
