Free Qcad Text missing

Post by s3elan » Sun Nov 23, 2025 8:46 pm

I have been using the 2D version of Quad for a few years. I create wiring diagrams for my classic car. There are lots of text entries. I recently downloaded a new version removing the necessary files for the free version to work. I created a new diagram for a wiper delay unit. After saving it and reopening it I found all the text entries had migrated to the bottom left corner of the page. This has now happened three times. I don't dare open some of the more complex drawings for fear of corrupting them. Hope some one can help me. I am 78 but reasonably proficient at the simple level I use 2D Qcad at.

Hi, and welcome to the QCAD forum.

The bottom left corner is presumably the origin.
Could you verify if the text position is altered to (0.0, 0.0) for all when reloaded.
Typical for when a text entity is considered to be invalid or Null.

Is this only related to text entities?
Do you use Block attributes and are these also affected?

The problem might be only related to a specific OS and/or to a specific release for that OS.
Please, indicate your operating system and QCAD version.
Also see above forum rules in red.

I would not load and save existent files using that version of QCAD CE until a bug is located and fixed.
I have no CE version of 3.32.4 installed at the moment to verify the behavior.

What you can try in the meantime is : Resetting the QCAD Configuration
This has solved weird issues in the past but it removes all customization and reset persistent stored tool options.
Instead of deleting the config file you could rename it for later reference.
Use a dummy file with some text entities for a test.

Perhaps something went wrong with updating.
A second option is to restart from scratch by removing the QCAD installation completely.
This doesn't alter the config file.
